Carson High School Career & Technical Education

Tech Prep

Tech Prep is a way to receive college credits while in high school.  In a Tech Prep program, the student begins courses of study in high school and continues in postsecondary or apprenticeship programs.  Tech Prep is designed to prepare students to enter and succeed in a postsecondary institution of career choice.

The Western Nevada College and the Carson City School District have entered into a joint agreement to participate in the 2+2 Tech Prep Program.  This program is design to provide students with the opportunity to take certain courses as part of their high school program, which qualify for both high school and college credit.

This means if a student is a junior or senior completes the high school Tech Prep class with a grade of A or B and completes the registration application.  They will receive college credit at no additional cost.  Not only does this save tuition costs but also the cost of textbooks and fees often the student can complete a college program in less time.  Students can receive up to 15 credits in this program.  Note:  If your son or daughter completes a class as a freshman or sophomore, they could be eligible to receive the credits.  If they complete a articulated class their junior or senior year, they can receive the Tech Prep Credit in some programs.

Upon successful completion of high school, students can contact WNC to receive their official transcript.  The student need not attend WNC to get college credits and these credit could transfer to other colleges.
