Leadership class plans and administers all student activities at Carson High School for the school year.  Activities include Homecoming Week, Winter Festival, appreciation dinner, homeroom representative meetings, assemblies, concession stands, student council meetings and other miscellaneous activities.  This is a required class for Student Body Officers and class presidents.  Class is open to other students with teacher approval.

The purpose of the Link Crew class is to tap the potential and maximize the benefits of the existing Link Crew Program.  The benefits include increased sense of community, improved climate and successful transition of new students.  The class is service oriented and will include interpersonal communication, resource management, fact research and reporting, graceful approach and interaction with adults, curricular knowledge, time management, agenda setting, marketing and communication, presentation, project planning, leadership vs. management, and appropriate celebration. Enrollment by recommendation of Instructor.

This course focuses on working in one of the school's offices:  Attendance, Library, Athletic Director, Nurse, or Guidance.  The students assist the school staff in performing various office duties.  To qualify to work as a student aide, a student must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0, fill out an application form, and be interviewed.  Student placement in this program will be determined by an interview committee under the direction of the Vice Principal.  A grade of Pass will be given and will not affect the GPA.

This course will involve working with high school students who are developmentally disabled and may also include reading assignments, advocacy projects and a final exam.  The student may enroll for either one or two periods daily with credit offered accordingly.  Courses in psychology or sociology are beneficial.  Enrollment in this course requires permission of the instructor.

WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

PROGRAM

The Work Experience Program offers students a chance to extend what they learn in the classroom into a workplace setting.  At the same time it provides an educational experience which will help the student understand the transitional process between school and work.  Students must be at least 16 years old and have a paid job before applying.  They will earn 1/2 credit for every 135 hours of work completed, not to exceed 3 credits per school year, 5 total credits, including summer hours. They are expected to show a progressive trend toward new experiences and competencies.  To receive credit, students must have a work experience contract on file in the Guidance Office and turn in copies of paycheck stubs monthly. Interested students must apply for admission in the Guidance Office.
